THE BEACH HOUSE – February 2012

What a fantastic holiday. Exactly as described - the Beach House combines a quiet, tranquil location in a peaceful corner of Rawai, with close access to everything you need for an amazing stay. Within minutes of arrival the pace of life at home had been forgotten and we thought “this is the place for us”.
Sue and Janson could not have been better hosts – providing a tour of the local sights and facilities (some of which we would certainly have missed without it), and spending enough time with us to really make us feel welcome without ever once intruding.
There are so many highlights it's hard to know where to start, here are a few:

· GAME FISHING: we spent two separate days fishing and had a blast. Be careful to understand what you want: if you want a day out on a boat with breaks for snorkelling, landing or stopping for lunch etc then there are plenty of trips that offer that (Sue and Janson can help via a local tour agent). If like us however you want to FISH, then we found the two days we spent fishing with Jimmy Stewart (www.fishinginphuket.com) were loads of fun and very affordable. Yes, movie buffs, that really is his name (so he claims!). Jimmy charters his boats for groups of 4-6, at 12,000 baht (about £250) for the boat including crew, light breakfast and lunch (sashimi if you catch tuna!) and all the gear. Having fished all over the world that's really pretty good, if there's only a couple of you he can generally make up a party of 4-6 with members of the local fishing club to help keep your costs down. You really will get a full day, likely you'll be first boat out and last in. Make sure you check with Jimmy that he will personally be on the boat – he is hilarious and highly knowledgeable in equal measure – and I can't imagine either day would have been anything like as good without him. And if you want, the fishing club members will join you to round off the day with a sundowner in their “home” bar – which by happy coincidence is the one next to the Beach House so you don't have far to stagger home.

· If you like to get out and about, a car (Sue and Janson can help arrange) is a must: or a scooter if you are feeling especially adventurous/reckless. I personally found driving in Phuket to be great fun – like a big 3D video game – but probably not to everyone's tastes!

· Definitely spend an evening watching the SUNSET OVER NAI HARN, there's also a lovely little stall on the way up serving really tasty barbecue pork ribs (amongst other things).

· VILLA MARKET (just north of Chalong roundabout) has the widest selection of food to eat at the Beach House if you enjoy an evening of meat/cheese/wine just watching the sea and relaxing “at home”, but...

· EVEN BETTER VENTURE OUT TO ONE OF THE NIGHT MARKETS, worth it as much for the atmosphere and experience as for the market and more great street food.

· For breakfasts:

THE BEACH HOUSE (just up from Areu Corner) is good.

· DELISH (on your right on Wiset road about 0.5km before Chalong roundabout) is better.

· KALLOT'S is the BEST (that we found) – the best food and even wifi as well so you can read the morning paper on the iPad over coffee :-) We actually had dinner at Kallot's one evening as well, which was equally good and probably the least expensive of the restaurants we tried. Kallot's is harder to find – the easiest (if not quite the quickest) route is to turn off Wiset Road at the traffic light, follow the road – maybe a mile or so – past the “yellow bank” (you'll know it when you see it) and Kallot's is about 50 yards on the right...if you get to the fork you've gone too far.

· AREU CORNER – a mixed bag but the stone-heated skillet plates are outstanding, I recommend the beef.

· THE SEA GYPSY VILLAGE – definitely one of the absolute highlights for us, we ate there more than once. Buy seafood at one of the stalls straight out of the sea, they cook it for you right across the road in one of a handful of restaurants. In the end it actually works out around to same cost as the cheaper restaurants but if you like seafood it's as good as you'll get and you'll really feel like your have discovered “authentic” Thailand – much like a stay at the Beach House.

Sue, Janson, thank you so much for sharing your little corner of paradise with us and for your warmth and hospitality. We would (and will) recommend this place to anyone, we've made great new friends and it's a shame to have to leave. The Beach House is a gem, the like of which is very rare anywhere.

We indeed have had a wonderful time. When we arrived at the Villa, even quite late, Janson was waiting for us and even provided some food and drinks for us, and then accompanied us to the grocery store to buy things we needed for our stay. He also patiently explained to us basic information about the island – plus if you need something – Sue & Janson were always there to assist us. We tried a lot of restaurants – mostly in the Rawai area. The food was great, prices affordable and service was fast. We visited a few beaches, big Buddha, Wat Chalong and a day trip to the Phi Phi Islands – and all were great experiences. The highlight of our trip was to stay, relax and enjoy our Villa and private pool, reading books, having drinks or just simply enjoying the wonderful weather. Thailand is truly amazing! Thank you very much.

Well, it’s the last day of another dream holiday in Phuket. We have been 3 times now, and this was our second stay with Phuket Coconut Paradise Villas. Bon Island Villa met with all our expectations – a real home from home with a lovely pool and lots of sunshine! We always feel safe knowing Sue is only a phone call away to help with anything! All the staff are so friendly and helpful. We love Nai Harn Beach, eating at Archee’s (on the Promthep Cape Road) and Nikita’s Bar. Thailand has a charm all of it’s own that keeps us coming back, and knowing we have such a lovely place to stay is the icing on the cake J.

PS The loan of the Mobile Phone was brilliant and P & D Taxis were faultless!

What can one say about Sue & Janson? Perfect hosts doesn’t even get close! Having travelled far and wide for many years there has never, ever, anywhere, been a warmer welcome – including a hugely helpful hour tour of the locality. Thank you both so very much. Nothing was too much trouble. The villa was fantastic. We tried various restaurants and soon settled on Nikitas as our firm favourite. Lovely staff, fab food, great location & sensible prices. Initially I (Tony) had to “sell” my wife the idea of coming to Phuket (pre-conceived impression etc) but I’m now pretty sure Karen wants to come back for 3 weeks next year!

Karen – As Tony said, I was very reluctant to come to Phuket, but am so very glad I let him “twist my arm”. What a great place and what superb hosts Sue & Janson are. The Villa is everything you could want and nothing is too far to get to. Nikitas is by far our favourite place for eating and in such a lovely setting. A must do is the “Sea Canoes”. What a great experience! Make sure you take your camera with you. Thank you both Sue & Janson for a truly wonderful holiday and we both hope to be back again.

Where do we start? OK we won’t bore you with everything that we enjoyed, we will just list a few things that might be helpful if it’s your first visit like it was ours! The villa was way beyond our expectations – extremely well equipped and in such a beautiful tranquil setting. The pool was used all the time by our children who we thought might grow webbed feet! Tan – the Massage Lady is an absolute must! She is very helpful and melted away all our stresses! Driving is an experience here but one that must be endured to fully appreciate this wonderful island. Keep your hand on the horn at all times and beware of traffic from 8 directions! Once mastered, the possibilities are endless!! If you want a day trip to the beach, go up to the very north of the island and just before you get to the bridge, there are lots of little cafes and miles of deserted sandy Beaches and beautiful torqoise sea. Best restaurants we found were Norbus if you are wanting a delicious steak – and they have a fab kids menu too with children’s cutlery provided!!! We also loved Areu Corner. The staff are fab and the food just the best!! Choose the Hot Rock and cook your own meat with Sauces and Salad and Rosti – just perfect on a warm evening! Our last thoughts must go out to Sue and Janson - the perfect hosts! We loved the Tour around the local area and nothing was too much trouble. Also – the Sunset with a cool beer was amazing – Pla was excellent for any trips and very helpful – the Canoe Trip was one of the best things we have done and the kids loved it and the Guides were great fun! If you do one trip – do this one! Elephant Trekking is quite hairy but a great experience. We hope our comments have been helpful? We are already looking at dates to return! Oh – and the Night Market in Phuket Town was great – and the best Supermarket was at Chalong near Toys R Us!

“Well, if this is what heaven is like, then we don’t mind going there!”

The first thought that struck me after arriving at The Beach House was “If Heaven is like this, then I don’t mind going!” We spent a week here as part of our Honeymoon & had the most amazing time. The Beach House itself was immaculate & had everything we needed. It was beautifully decorated with a homely feel. The setting was spectacular & the view was truly idyllic. We really enjoyed sitting outside with the sea literally at our feet & the area was lovely with so much to see and do. A big thanks to Sue & Janson who went out of their way to provide us with any info we needed – recommending Bars, Restaurants & Trips etc. Our highlights were The Big Buddha, Chalong Temple & Laem Phromthep. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were made to feel so welcome. Sue & Janson are such lovely, friendly people & they helped to make our stay truly unforgettable. We are already planning our next trip here. We had the most amazing Honeymoon – it really is like paradise here!

Yet again a great holiday at Phuket Coconut Paradise Villas!

Having the 2 Villas worked well and made holidaying with extended family easier. We have explored loads of restaurants and have many favourites. Stunning trips yet again to Bon Island and Coral Island. A nice day out for the kids at the Zoo and a trip to the Big Buddha! The staff at the Villas were excellent yet again. A big thank you to the cleaners and the pool men who are so polite and friendly. Thanks also for the use of the phone. We used P & D Taxis every day and got a wonderful service. Thanks again from the Bennetts and the Goodwins (Cornwall, England) and see you again soon. PS Thanks for the Christmas Tree and Biscuits!

Wat Chalong

Just a short drive from our holiday villas, Wat Chalong is really worth a visit!

Follow the road from Rawai to Chalong's 'Ha Yaek' roundabout then take the 2nd turning on the left, the same road to go to Homeworks, Central or lotus department stores, and the airport. Wat Chalong is to the right, not long after the PTT petrol station, and the Temple's Chedi can be seen before you reach the turning.

Built in 1837 Chalong Temple is one of the most famous temples in Phuket. Although the temple was renamed by Royal decree as Wat Chaitararam during the era of Luang Po Chaem, a monk who helped the locals fight the Ang Yi rebellion during the reign of King Rama V, it is still commonly known by it's former name, Wat Chalong. The new Chedi was built to house a fragment of Buddha's bone (Phra Borom Sareerikatat) brought from Sri lanka in 1999 and consecrated in a ceremony held in 2002.

The temple is open to visitors and worshippers from 6am to 5pm daily.

วัดไชยธาราราม หรือ วัดฉลอง ตั้งอยู่เลขที่ 70 บ้านฉลอง ถนนเจ้าฟ้า หมู่ที่ 6 ตำบลฉลอง อำเภอเมืองภูเก็ต จังหวัดภูเก็ต สังกัดคณะสงฆ์มหานิกาย วัดไชยธารารามสร้างขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2380 มีนามว่า “วัดฉลอง” ตามชื่อบ้าน ภายหลังได้เปลี่ยนเป็น “วัดไชยธาราราม” ในสมัยหลวงพ่อแช่ม หรือพระครูวิสุทธิวงศาจารย์ญาณมุนี เป็นเจ้าอาวาส ได้รับพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมาประมาณ พ.ศ.2386 ปัจจุบันมี พระครูอุดมเวชกิจ ดำรงตำแหน่งเจ้าอาวาส พระมหาพงษ์ศักดิ์ เตชวณฺโณ ดำรงตำแหน่งรองเจ้าอาวาส
